ABOUT US

We are affectionately referred to as “The Best Church, This Side of Heaven” by our pastor, Rev. Dr. Reginald Blount. We are a multigenerational, family oriented church that loves the Lord and each other. Together we are a community of believers. What does that mean, the word community? We believe that together we grow stronger.

Not only do we have service, but we strive to be a church beyond the walls. Jesus calls for us to go outside the walls to reach the lost and the broken. It is there that the lost will be found. We make it an effort to be like the church from the book of Acts, to see the Morgan Park community and the city of Chicago changed.

We highly value our relationships with one another. We look to grow through fellowship, and ultimately growing closer to God.

WHO WE ARE

OUR MISSION

The Mission of the AME Church is to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of all people. We exist to be God's Agents of Hope through vital worship, transformative Christian education, and community renewal.

OUR VISION

At every level of the Connection and in every local church, the AME Church engages in carrying out the spirit of the original Free African Society, out of which the AME Church evolved: that is, to seek out and save the lost, and to serve the needy. It is also the duty of Church to continue to encourage all members to become involved in all aspects of church.

OUR VALUES

The Motto “God Our Father, Christ Our Redeemer, the Holy Spirit Our Comforter, Humankind Our Family” is a great summary of what the African Methodist Episcopal Church believes.

OUR HISTORY

Over 120 Years

In Morgan Park

  1. Our church was founded in 1898.
  2. Our church name was given in honor of the 17th Bishop, William Arnett of WIllberforce, Ohio.
  3. Arnett's first purchase of property was located at 112th Place in 1918.
  4. In 1923, Rev. Ella Morris became the first woman from Arnett to receive an evangelical liscense. She was ordained in 1948.
  5. The first president of Arnett's Women's Ministry was Cora Edwards.
